The funeral service for Lois M. Palmer, 83, of Mellette, SD, will be 2:00pm, Monday, March 2, 2020, at Northwestern United Methodist Church, Mellette, with Pastor Doug Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Mellette Cemetery. Lois died Tuesday, February 25, at her home in Mellette. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00pm, Sunday, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street, Aberdeen, SD. Lois M. Kittlesland was born January 25, 1937, to Fred and Jessie (Gordon) Kittlesland, in Aberdeen, SD. She grew up on the family farm north of Brentford, SD. Lois attended school in Brentford and was active in 4-H. She graduated from Brentford High School in 1955 and continued her education at Aberdeen School of Commerce. On May 8, 1958, Lois was united in marriage to Gordon O. Palmer in Webster, SD. They settled in Mellette. Two sons were added to this union. In 1959, Gordon started farming again and in 1965, they bought a farm 31/2 miles east of Mellette. Gordon passed away on March 23, 2012.
Lois was a member of Northwestern United Methodist Church. She was active in the church and enjoyed helping with the church rummage sale. Lois was also an active member of the Mellette Senior Center and the Red Hat Ladies. She was a great baker and was known for her chocolate cakes. Lois always planted a garden and enjoyed being outdoors. After Gordon passed away, Lois encouraged her family to fix up lots at Scatterwood Lake for them to enjoy. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting over coffee with her friends. She faithfully attended her children's and grandchildren's activities and athletic events. Lois was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Grateful for having shared Lois' life are her two sons: Charles Palmer and Roger (Amy) Palmer, both of Mellette; and her grandchildren: Nathan Palmer and Hannah (Kyle Adam) Palmer. Preceding Lois in death are her husband: Gordon Palmer; her parents: Fred and Jessie Kittlesland; and her brother: Bob Kittlesland. www.spitzerfuneralhome.com
