Lois Shirley Morrison passed on to be with her Lord on May 23, 2022. Lois was born to Preddie Turpen Shirley and Charles Edward Shirley on Jun. 23 1920. She was number 12 of 13 children. Lois has 2 daughters Nancy Morrison and Pat Pickens and Pat's husband Carey. Lois grew up in Rabun County on her parents farm. She was very active. She was in school plays and played basketball. When she graduated she was the first girl to receive the award of being the best in athletics. After graduating she moved to Atlanta to live with one of her sisters and then made her way to live with another sister in Marietta. She got a job at Bell Aircraft during the war and was Rosie the Riveter for 1 month. Due to the strain of the job she traded it for an office job. She did not mind the $.05 an hour cut in pay. She met Charles Morrison and was married on Dec 24,1945. She was a stay at home mom after she had her 2 children. She was involved in school activities and taught kindergarten at the local Presbyterian church. She was involved in her community and wrote up a petition to get the area cleaned off which is now Victory Park. After retirement she and Charles had 16 wonderful years square dancing. She was very appreciative of the awards she received. Some included The Volunteer Family Trophy for her community involvement, and The Cobb County Adopt-a-Stream Red Flag award. The Red Flag Award was for her active determination to help keep our waterways safe and our drinking water clean. She was involved in Keep Marietta Beautiful and Marietta Treekeepers through community clean ups and planting trees and other vegetation. Mom was a member of Light of Hope Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to your favorite charity. Graveside services will be held at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery on Thursday, May 26th at 2:00PM.
