Lois Margaret MacIndoe Burkhard passed away on February 10, 2021 at 6:44am. At her request, there will be no viewing. Lois Margaret was the daughter of John Harper MacIndoe Sr. and M. Marie (Lucas) MacIndoe, born at her Lucas grandparents farm, Union Township, Centre County, PA on April 3, 1924, though the family home was in Arcadia, Indiana County. She married Joseph William Burkhard on December 15, 1942 in Johnstown, PA and he preceded her in death on January 7, 2004 ending a union of over 61 years. They were predeceased by their beloved eleven-year-old son, Douglas Lee, June 2, 1957. Lois was also predeceased by her dear parents; her beloved stepmother M. Eden Kline MacIndoe; infant sister Marie Eloise; son Joseph William Jr.; brother Col. John Walter MacIndoe USA Ret.; and niece Kathryn MacIndoe Utzig. Lois Margaret attended Barnesboro and Cresson PA high schools. She graduated from Cambria-Rowe Business College and worked in business offices in PA, CO, and VA before becoming an income tax consultant for over 30 years. She was especially proud of her Scottish and Welsh ancestry. One of her pleasures was the genealogy of her ancestors and of the Burkhards who were of German descent. Lois was a member of the Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange, FL for over 26 years and was a member of the adult choir during those years. Lois is survived by a son, Darian Burkhard and his wife Jill of Leesburg, VA; grandchildren Renee, Jodi, Jamie, Douglas, and Joshua of PA and Zakary, Brittany, and Drew of VA; great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a nephew Dr. John Harper MacIndoe II of MN; daughter-in-law Sarah Burkhard; and MacIndoe and Burkhard nephews and nieces. Also surviving is foster son Michael P. Haluska of FL, his 2 children and grandchildren. A Liturgy Service will be held virtually on March 4, 2021. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Conemaugh, PA at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made as a memorial gift honoring Lois to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
