Lois Rundstrom Koncki, 95, of Meriden, loving wife for 69 years of the late Joseph Henry Koncki, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2022 at MidState Medical Center.
Lois was born August 24, 1926 in Augusta, Maine to the late Knut Herman Rundstrom and Grace Bubar Clevette. She graduated from Cony High School in 1945 and moved to Meriden to live near her eldest sister, Doris. Lois married into Joseph's large, tight-knit Polish family in 1950 and together they raised four children surrounded by the love and support of many brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She served her community through the Meriden Board of Education as the Finance Secretary at Maloney High School and retired from the Board in 1990.
For many years, Lois was an active member of the St. Stanislaus Home & School Association, the Ladies Guild, the Meriden Intermediate Women's Club, and the Catholic Council. In retirement, she and her husband loved traveling to places such as Aruba, Singapore, Las Vegas, and Hawaii, and voyaging on many cruises with friends. Lois enjoyed cooking, shopping, accessorizing, and joining in the friendly competition of many family card games. She was an avid knitter, often making sweaters with the yarn she brought back from Iceland. Lois also looked forward to her weekly Wednesday lunch bunch with her secretarial colleagues - all of whom remained life-long friends.
Lois is survived by her children Judith Solomon, Pamela (Raymond) DeMeis, Barbara (Philip) Hummelt, and Daniel Koncki; grandchildren Lisa (Jason) Solomon Krull, Abby (Justin) Solomon Malmstrom, Katherine Hummelt, and Elizabeth Hummelt; and great grandchildren David Krull, Raegan Krull, Kallan Krull, McKinley Malmstrom, and Everett Malmstrom. She was predeceased by her son-in-law David Solomon.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers at Companions & Homemakers who provided support and companionship and allowed her to age in place in her home. To all of her caregivers, especially Suria, Nakia, Ivelisse, and Ami, we are most grateful. A special thank you to Lucille Kosienski, her hair stylist who kept mom looking and feeling her best along with Lois LaMay, who creatively cooked and surprised mom with special meals and lively conversation she so enjoyed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Lois and Joseph Koncki, Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus (St. Faustina) Catholic Church, 82 Akron Street, Meriden, CT.
