Wadsworth -- Lloyd Yoder, 90, of Wadsworth, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on May 13, 2021. He was born on October 8, 1930 in Coraopolis, Pa. to John F. and Emily N. Yoder.
Lloyd graduated from Coraopolis High School in 1948 and went on to receive a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1952. Lloyd married Elizabeth "Betsy" Reising in 1955 and they enjoyed 60 years of happiness until her death in 2015. Lloyd spent 43 years working for Babcock & Wilcox Company, starting as a test engineer at their Alliance, Ohio research center and then transferring to the offices in Barberton, Ohio. During this time he became the manager of the company's Licensing Technical Operations. In this capacity he worked with many foreign companies and traveled throughout the world. He was a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Ohio, a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a member of their sub-committee on their power boiler codes, and chairman of the joint executive and finance committee of the Uniform Boiler and Pressure Vessel Laws Society. Lloyd taught Code nationally and internationally for 14 years and wrote a book, Power Boilers: A Guide to Section I of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, that is still being sold by the ASME. In retirement, Lloyd participated as an expert witness in several court cases involving the use of the Code.
Lloyd was a wonderfully caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play sports, and always attending their special events. Lloyd was the ultimate "fix-it" man. Nothing was ever broken that he couldn't come up with some way to repair. Lloyd had a love for learning and passing that knowledge on to his offspring. He and Betsy enjoyed many travels, both throughout the US and internationally. Everywhere he went he made sure he was learning as much as he could.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, and his brother, John. He is survived by his children, Amy (Glen) Coral of West Chester, Pa., Kay (Jim) Carps of Wadsworth and Ray (Norma) Yoder of Willoughby, Ohio; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Emily and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Village of St. Edward's Memory Care for their love and care the last two years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 272 Broad Street, Wadsworth, Ohio. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Village of St. Edward, 880 Main Street, Wadsworth, OH 44281.
