Lloyd Lester Lively, Jr. (93), of Hilton Head Island, SC died on the 31st of December, 2020. He is survived by his son Lloyd L (Les) Lively and his wife Adrianne of Hilton Head Island, SC, his daughter Elizabeth Ann (Libby) Planz of Birmingham, AL, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Phyllis Barnes Lively, his father Lloyd L. Lively, his mother Olive Stoner Lively and his sister Kathleen Forker of Tucson, AZ.
Mr. Lively was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1927. His family later moved to Decatur, AL when he was still young. He graduated from Columbia Military Academy and later Auburn University in 1949 with a degree in engineering. He was a member of the SAE fraternity while attending Auburn. In September of 1949 he married his neighbor Phyllis Barnes. After working in Greensboro, NC, where he did graduate studies in Psychology at UNC Greensboro and in Greenville, SC the couple returned to north Alabama where Mr. Lively worked for the Army Missile Command for the next 31 years. He served as the Command Nuclear Program Manager, Anti-tank Field Artillery Program Manager, Manager of the Command Automatic Test Equipment Office and Director for Product Assurance. After his retirement from the Missile Command, Mr. Lively became the Southeastern Regional Manager for FMC Corporation. He later was the Regional Marketing Manager for Computing Devices International, Deneb Robotics and G&F Corporation.
Mr. Lively was a member of Phi Psi Honorary Fraternity and Alabama Academy of Science. He was on the Board of Directors of the Huntsville/Madison County United Way and the Board of Directors as well as President of the Huntsville Arts Council. He was a member of the Huntsville Lions Club and the Huntsville Kiwanis Club where he also served as President. He was a Deacon and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville, AL.
Mr. Lively and his wife moved from Huntsville, AL to Hilton Head Island, SC in August 2006 where the resided in the TidePointe Community. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Huntsville, AL.
