God saw the road was getting rough, The hill was hard to climb. He closed her weary eyelids and whispered, "Peace be thine."
Mrs. Lizzie Gallman Marshall, 101 years blessed, affectionally known as "Doll" entered this life "with her twin" on July 15, 1920 and peacefully departed this life at her niece's home in Irmo, SC., surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
Mrs. Lizzie Gallman Marshall, was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Gallman, Sr., and Bessie Harp Gallman of Newberry, SC. She was one of five children. She was married June 1955 to the late Reverend William James Marshall of Abbeville, SC.
She attended Drayton Street High School, Newberry SC. and graduated with honors. She received a baccalaureate degree in Education from Morris College in Sumter, SC within three years with honors. She attained a Master's Degree with honors from South Caroline State College in Orangeburg, SC.
Mrs. Marshall began her career in education at Bell Street High School in Clinton, SC. She taught school at Drayton and Gallman High Schools in Newberry SC. She also taught at Carver High School and later retired from Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, SC. Her dedication to education spanned forty-five years.
Mrs. Marshall was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church, and served as a faithful member all of her young life. She served in the churches that her husband pastored for many years and continued her dedication to christian service. On returning to Newberry, SC, she served at Bethlehem in many roles and later became Mother of the Church.
She is survived by her nieces: Mrs. Barbara Brooks, Mrs. Gertrude Moses (David), Mrs. Marcia Morris, Mrs. Audrey Bobo (Robert), Mrs. Janette Eichberger (Chris), Mrs. Jaqueline Wilson (George), and nephews: Mr. Wayne Gallman (Erlamae), and Mr. Norbert Gallman (Eunice). She leaves behind, emboldened by her spirit, many other great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and a great-great-great niece and nephew. First cousins Mrs. Sarah Harp Cook and Mrs. Beatrice Harp Royster.
She will always be known for her dedication to family, education and christian service. A hundred and one years of a life well lived.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 4 to 7 pm in the parlor of Wilson Funeral Home, 64 Boundary St, Newberry, SC 29108.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1501 College St, Newberry, SC 29108.
Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
