Lino Antonino "Papa Lino" Zapata, 76, entered eternal rest on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at his daughter's residence in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on a Saturday, September 2, 1944 in Edcouch, Texas to Lino Zapata and Agustina Baldera Saenz. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter; Ashely Marie Patino, brothers; Arnulfo Zapata, Ventura Zapata and Reymundo Zapata, sister; Eva Cantu.
Left to cherish his memories are his children; Lino (Sharon) Garcia, Anna (Andrew) Liesman and Yvonne (Daniel R.) Ortega, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Papa Lino lived in Edinburg most of his life and owned Zapata's "Popeye" Tire Shop for many years. He enjoyed gardening, attending to his chickens and watching western movies and Walker, Texas Ranger. He also enjoyed his favorite snacks; snoballs cupscakes and orange soda. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
The Zapata family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic burial will follow to Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 1701 East Richardson in Edinburg. Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be: Lino Garcia, Lino Chevy Garcia, Andrew Liesman, Logan Liesman, Xander Martinez and Daniel R. Ortega. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manger/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home.
