Linda Kay Reid of Solomons Maryland passed away peacefully on August 23, 2022; she was 84 years old. Linda was born and raised in Northwestern Pennsylvania. She married her husband, James R. Reid in 1956 and had 4 children. While family was their main focus in life, together they were active in the community in various organizations and fostered 11 foster children.
Linda went to college "late" being one of the first recipients of the Allegheny College Continuing Education Scholarship for Community Women, and she later graduated from Edinboro University with her BA and Masters in counseling. Following graduation, she lived in Zibo, China teaching English at the Zibo Teachers College. Upon her return to Pennsylvania, she was employed at Women's Services and the Center for Families in Change in Meadville and then went to work in the Allegheny College Counseling Center as a counselor for several years.
She moved to Alexandria, Virginia in 1997 where she worked as a docent at Mt. Vernon while she was serving as nanny to her new granddaughter. Three years later, she moved to Southern Maryland where she worked for the Calvert Memorial Hospital as a counselor before retiring. In Southern Maryland she made many new friends some of whom remained dear friends throughout the remainder of her life. A life-long reader, she also enjoyed sailing and dinners with friends, tap dancing and kayaking.
Linda is survived by two children, Brent Reid (Anita) of Petersburg, VA and Lisa Reid Ragen (Patrick) of Saint Leonard, MD, a brother Stan Shook (Suzie) of South Bend, IN, five grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, a brother and her sister.
Due to Covid concerns, there will be no services held. Linda's family would like to thank the staff at the Hermitage of Solomons and Calvert Hospice for taking such compassionate care of Linda during her final days.
