Linda Reeves Watson, age 78, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully, and surrounded by Family, on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Callie and John Rainey Hospice House.
Born June 25, 1943, in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late Emory Manning Reeves and Louise Shirley Reeves. She was married for 44 years to the late Dr. Robert S. Watson.
Music defined Linda's life from an early age. Although formally trained as a pianist and vocalist, she possessed the rare and impressive gift of playing piano by ear. If she heard the melody, she could play any song. Linda attended Union College in Barbourville, KY on a vocal scholarship and later obtained her master's degree in music education from the University of South Carolina. Bringing her love of music to the classroom, Linda taught music to thousands of elementary, middle school and high school students all over South Carolina during her more than thirty-year teaching career. In 1995 she was voted Teacher of the Year for Anderson School District V.
Linda's musical passion was not limited to the classroom. Throughout her career, she often participated in community theatre productions, directed and sang in local choral groups, taught private vocal and piano lessons, and served as choral director for dozens of churches.
Linda loved people and never met a stranger. With a huge heart, giving freely to all, she dedicated her life to serving this world with her unique kindness and respect. Yet, her world was not only music (and service to God), but also family. Affectionately known as "Lala" by her six grandchildren, she loved her children and grandchildren without boundaries or limits. Those who knew her, loved her. Everyone will miss her sweet and happy spirit.
Left to cherish her memory, are four sons, Reeves S. Watson, James A. Watson (Cindy), Robert E. Watson (Tammy) and Daniel S. Watson (Lynn); and six grandchildren, Josie Watson, Berk Watson, Claudia Watson, Stone Watson, Garrett Watson, and Emory Watson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her beloved sister, Shirley Reeves Moore.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Linda will be held at 3:30 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Ruhamah United Methodist Church, 110 Ruhamah Church Road, Starr, SC 29684. Family will gather with friends prior to the memorial service from 1 PM until 3 PM at the church.
