Linda Walker Peele, 83, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023 at ECU Health Hospital after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Teed and Mattie Walker of Burlington, NC. She was the fourth out of five children. Visitation will be held Monday, January 16, 2023, from 6:00-8:00PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Her funeral will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 1:30PM, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home chapel. Interment will be at Pinewood Memorial Park following the service. Linda met her future husband, Elwood (Woody) Peele, on a blind date. The couple quickly fell in love, and were wed on June 11, 1960. They moved to Goldsboro where she served as secretary at the local junior high school. She became a mother, giving birth to Scott, Susan, and Steven. When her husband was named sports editor of the Greenville Reflector, she became a housewife, raising her children. As they grew older and started attending school, she became a nursery school teacher and then a teacher's aide in the Greenville Public Schools System. She quickly became a devoted fan of the East Carolina Pirates, while her husband covered them for the newspaper. After her children grew up and married, she became "Grammy" to seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all her pride and joy. Surviving, is her husband of 62 years, Woody; children and their spouses, Scott and wife, Debra of Grimesland; Susan Hamm and husband, Al, of Emerald Isle; and Steven and wife, Crystal, of Fountain; grandchildren, Lauren Hurdle and husband, Chris of Grimesland; Kristen Lee and husband, Bruce of Chocowinity, Anna Winslow and husband, Lloyd of Scotland Neck; Caroline Hamm of Pinetops; Stuart Hamm of Honolulu, Hawaii; Erin Edge and husband, Robert, of Conway, SC and Seth Peele of Fountain; great-grandchildren, Ally and Aubrey Hurdle, Ainsley, Chip, and Eva Kate Winslow, and Mason and Drake Lee; brother, Dr. Joel Walker and sister, Nancy Fogelman, both of Graham, NC; along with several special nieces and nephews. Many thanks to her caregiver Lillian Little, whom she loved like a daughter; and the staff of the CICU at ECU Health for the compassionate care they provided to her and her family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to NC Special Olympics, the Maynard Children's Hospital at ECU Health, or St. Jude's Hospital. Arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home & Crematory.
