Linda Jordan Key transitioned from this life on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Hospice of The Golden Isles, Brunswick, GA with both of her children at her side.
Linda was born in Lowell, Massachusetts. Frequent moves were common with a father serving in the Navy. While settled in Charleston, SC, she met and married the love of her life, Stewart. After several career moves for Stewart, they settled in their beloved Savannah, GA and raised their family. Linda loved the history and beauty of Savannah and always enjoyed showing friends and family around her beautiful city.
Linda was in the banking industry for more than 45 years. She began her career as a float teller working her way up to position of Vice President. She held many positions including branch manager, loan officer, Human Resources Director and Operations Director. She was a lifelong learner. While raising her family, she continued her education taking classes in banking. After three years of on and off campus classes, Linda graduated from the Georgia Bankers Association School at University of Georgia.
She was involved in many civic and community activities including the Student Leadership Program (SLP), United Way, St. Jude Dream Home Project, St. Peter the Apostle Church as a Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher. She spent several weeks volunteering in Florida after Hurricane Andrew helping hurricane victims with FEMA assistance. Linda was a member of Beta Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over forty years. While making lifelong friends and having a lot of fun, she contributed time and talent to fund raising projects to benefit the community.
Linda was an avid reader throughout her life. She loved books and often read two or three books at one time. She loved the beach, enjoyed snow skiing, spending time with her family, friends, sorority sisters and her favorite furry child, Jack.
Most of all, Linda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was our best friend, cheerleader, life advisor and role model for unconditional love. We miss her smile, laugh, hugs, wit and wisdom.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart Hampton Key, Jr. and her brothers Robert and James. She is survived by her daughter, "Cindy" Cynthia (Bill) Podres of St. Simons Island; son, "Trey" Stewart H. (Laurie) Key, III of Richmond Hill; grandchildren, William B. Podres, III, Kathryn Elizabeth Podres, James Hampton Key; sister, Lucille (Gary) Bone of Andrews, SC. and very special nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to staff of Thrive at Frederica, St. Simons and Magnolia Manor at Richmond Hill for the love and compassionate care you gave Linda and Stewart.
Linda lost Stewart, her husband of fifty-seven years on November 27, 2020. She missed him so and we are grateful they are reunited.
A memorial service to celebrate Linda and Stewart will be held at 10:00 on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at St. Peter the Apostle Church, Savannah, GA. An Inurnment ceremony will be held later at St. William Catholic Church, St. Simons Island.
