Linda Darnell Bush Insley, 77, of Gastonia, NC transcended to her heavenly home on September 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family following a long and fierce battle with pancreatic cancer.
Linda was born to the late John Isaac and Ruth Moore Bush in Augusta, GA. One of five children, Linda always had a thirst for knowledge and loved school as well as basketball and cheerleading. She later received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her greatest joy, however, was her five children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Linda was known for her kind, loving, and welcoming nature. She genuinely loved people and was a staunch supporter of all things equality, justice, and human rights. Her altruism was unsurpassed and preparing food or sharing a meal with anyone who was in need was without fail. Also known for her green thumb and her love for gardening, before her illness she would spend hours tending to her garden or bird watching. Her favorite flowers were gladiolas and hydrangeas, and she adored cardinals and her hummingbirds.
Linda was preceded in death by both parents, sister Pat Brown (Dave) of North Augusta, SC, and brother John Bush, Jr. (Merle) of Graniteville, SC. Linda is survived by her sisters Margie Berry (Ed) of North Augusta, SC and Gail Wilson (Lewis) of Moody, AL; children: daughter Lisa (Gastonia), daughter Rhonda (Gastonia), son Win (Gastonia), daughter Leigh and son-in-law Chad (Gastonia), and daughter Rebecca (Gastonia); grandchildren Christian (Sierra), Danielle, Aaron, Alijah, Genesis, and Brooklyn; great-grandchildren McKynleigh and Elliana; bonus grands Raven (Greenville, SC), Van (Gastonia) and Lea (Gastonia); two very special nieces Angie (North Augusta, SC) and Mitzi (Greenville, SC), as well as a host of other nieces and nephews who she loved dearly; and her former husband Roger Insley, Sr. who said about Linda, "She is my first, my last, and my forever love."
Arrangements are being handled by Carothers Funeral home, and service will be held on Monday, September 11 at 3:00PM. Visitation of family and friends will be prior to the service at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charities, the Innocence Project or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) in Linda's honor.
