Lidys D Gonzalez de Glass, or 'Bueli' to her four grandchildren, went to heaven on Saturday, October 16th, 2021 at the age of 82, after a 2 week battle with Covid-19.
Lidys was born on August 14, 1939 in Chiriqui, Panama, where she met her husband Elwood, a US Marine stationed there. They wed in 1962 and moved to the United States. Their most long-term home was in Jacksonville, NC near Camp Lejeune. In their retirement years, they relocated to Charlotte. Lidys proudly held a panamanian citizenship for her entire life.
Being a wife, mother, and grandmother, was the most important part of Lidy's life. She shared invaluable wisdom, creativity, and a great sense of humor. 'Bueli' was a matriarch in the truest definition of the word. She built a strongly intertwined family that misses her dearly, including her siblings, nieces, and nephews still in Panama who love their "Tia Lidys."
Lidys was known above all else, to be vibrant. She was a talented artist. She laughed loudly and danced often. She was singing the music of Lola Flores and Rucio Durcal just a week before she became ill. She followed college basketball and the Carolina Panthers. She was a Catholic woman of strong faith, and always willing to help others in need. She was also an animal lover, taking in many rescue pets over the years.
Lidys is survived by her loving husband of almost 59 years, Elwood Glass; her sister Maritza Reyes; her three children Maria Guadalupe Miles, Gary Glass, and Dolly Glass; her four grandchildren Brittney Miles, David Miles, Sierra Duckett, and Elysia Duckett; and many nieces and nephews.
In the spirit of Lidy's giving history, memorials may be made to one of her favorite charities: The Humane Society of Charlotte, or an organization of your own choice.
