Libbie Greenbaum Parad passed away May 03 in Northampton, Massachusetts at the age of 98; just 14 months shy of reaching her goal of 100. Libbie was born in Boston, and attended Boston Girls Latin. Libbie went to Simmons College for both her B.A. and MSW, completing her Doctorate at Columbia University.
Libbie worked in close partnership with Howard J. Parad, her loving husband for 77 years until his death in 2019.
She was the editor and co-editor of many articles and books, including Crisis Intervention. Libbie was a lecturer at Smith College School of Social Work, as well as UC Northridge. Her areas of expertise included Social Policy and Planned Short-Term Treatment. Libbie was also a remarkable administrator and talented clinician, serving as the Assistant Director of Mental Health for Orange County, California.
Whatever room she entered, Libbie made an impact. Libbie spoke her keen mind on issues of social justice as well as racial and gender equity. Her voice was heard!
Libbie was a loving mother to her three children and their spouses; Harry (Diana), Jonathan (Lori) and Sarah (Larry). She took great pride as the grandmother to her five grandchildren and their spouses; Benjamin (Rebecca), Eliza (Tom), Joshua, Anne and Jacob. Libbie was delighted to be alive long enough to enjoy her great-grandchildren: Asa (12), Reuben (9), Zozia (5) and Jonah (almost 2).
Libbie's funeral will be a graveside service on Thursday,
May 05 at 1:00 PM at the Hebrew Cemetery, 476 North King Street, Northampton, MA -- followed by Shiva in Goshen, MA, starting approximately at 2:30 PM.
