Levon G. Jeffers, age 92, of Bloomington, passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 12, 2020. He was born to Rephel (Haywood) Jeffers on March 2, 1927, in Greene County, Indiana.
He graduated from Scotland High School in 1945. Levon retired from the United States Postal Service in 2000 with 52 years of government service, 31 as a rural mail carrier. He worked for General Motors for three years.
He was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and served as secretary for the Greene County Association for several years. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #196 in Bloomfield. He attended the Mineral Methodist Church in his early years. Later in life he enjoyed visits from Pastors Kim and Renee Norris from City church in Bloomington. He liked to travel and had traveled the United States, Canada and abroad.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Marjorie (Bays) Jeffers and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tonda L. Lawrence in March of 2000, two brothers, Eugene Jeffers in January of 1997 and Leverne Jeffers, January 13, 2020 and his mother in January of 2005.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Daniel Frye and Pastor Kim Norris officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview cemetery in Bloomfield.
Public visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 1 hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home.
The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
