On Friday, April 10, 2020, Leslie "Les" Ray, loving husband and father of two, passed away at the age of 94 at IU Hospice House. He was born August 19, 1925, in Sullivan, Indiana to Homer and Goldie (Lund) Ray.
Survivors include his two daughters, Linda Smit of Florida, and Kathy Ray of Bloomington. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife of 56 years, Rosemary L. Ray, and a sister, Maxine Weathers.
Les attended Indiana University, where he played basketball for one season. College was interrupted to serve in the Pacific with the Army Air Corps during WWII. His undergraduate schooling was completed at the University of Nevada, where he also played basketball. In later years he completed a Doctorate in School Administration at Indiana University.
His occupations were teaching, coaching, and school administration. He remained passionate about basketball all his life, and was a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
Les was known for his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit. He always treated everyone the same. Les enjoyed attending Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, going out to eat, and spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
