It is with profound sadness that the family of Leslie "Les" Alperstein announces his passing on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Les is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Lois Alperstein and his children, Alexander Alperstein, Lauren Alperstein Cohen and Zachary Cohen. He is predeceased by his beloved son, Ethan Alperstein. Les was the proud grandfather of his precious granddaughter, Ella Meyer Cohen. He is the son of the late Morris and Edith Alperstein of Baltimore, MD, and predeceased by his beloved sister, Rae Ellen Alperstein. His family will remember him most for his gifts of love, humility, wisdom, and generosity.
Dr. Leslie M. Alperstein was the former President, CEO, and founder of Washington Analysis, one of Washington's leading governmental policy investment research groups servicing asset managers globally. Dr. Alperstein served as Executive Managing Director and Director of Research at HSBC Securities, Inc., and as Director of Economic and Investment Research for NatWest Securities, Prudential Securities, Shields Model Roland, Inc and Legg Mason and Co. Earlier, he served as a captain in the U. S. Army, and as a staff economist on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
He was a member of the National Association of Business Economists, the National Economists Club, the CFA Society of Washington, The Washington Association of Money Managers and is listed in Who's Who in American Finance and Industry. Dr. Alperstein lectured at numerous universities and taught in the CFA Society of Washington CFA program. He served on the Board of Directors of Eagle Bancorp and on the Board of Trustees of McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College), the Board of Directors of the American Liver Foundation, and the Board of Directors of the Jewish National Fund. He is a longtime supporter of the Children's Inn at NIH and many worthy charitable organizations. He received his B.A, from McDaniel College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
In honor of all the ways in which his life was enriched by his education at McDaniel College, his family has established a named endowment fund for scholarships in economics at his alma mater. Memorial contributions can be made to the "Leslie M. Alperstein '63 Memorial Scholarship Fund" at McDaniel College.
The family will be holding private services and Shiva.
