Leonard W. Swafford passed in peace, in his sleep. Leonard Weldon Swafford, 93, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.
To say Leonard had a full and productive life would be an understatement for this man who was bigger than life. Leonard was born to Lillien and John Swafford on January 22, 1925, in Rowden, TX. At the age of 17, Leonard joined the U.S. Navy as a Seabee and faithfully served his beloved country in the South Pacific, during World War II. After returning home, Leonard took a job with El Paso Natural Gas and retired after 36 years. In 1948, he met and married Helen Poole in Flagstaff, AZ. They were married for 50 years before her passing in 1998. During their marriage, they adopted their beloved twins, Stacy and Tracey. Leonard met and married Maggie Parker in 1999. He had a passion for cars, car shows, dancing, playing dominos, telling stories and reminiscing about the good ole' days.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Helen Swafford; his daughter: Tracey Harris; his parents: Lillien and John Swafford; his brothers: Alvin "Pete", Leon "Hoot" and Carlos Swafford; his sister: Flora Gibbs; and his stepsons: Billy Skogland and Stephen Parker.
Leonard is survived by wife: Maggie Swafford; his son: Stacy Swafford; stepchildren: William Parker and Melissa Bakic; his sisters: Juanita Rawson and Katie Dunn; a special nephew: Jeff Burleson; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Public viewing will be held from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Parker Funeral Home in Baird. Funeral services with military honors are scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, July 20, 2018, at Parker Funeral Chapel with Brother Dewey Hall officiating. Interment will be privately held at Ross Cemetery Annex Addition in Baird. Arrangements are entrusted to Parker Funeral Home of Baird.
