Leonard "Len" Jankowski, 76, of Port St. Lucie, FL., formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at Lawnwood Regional Hospital in Fort Pierce.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he had been a resident of Florida since 1979. Len grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Perry High School in 1966. Len loved everything Pittsburgh and rooted especially hard for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Len served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He was a proud member of the 1st Infantry Division, commonly known as the Big Red One. Len earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Overseas Bar, Sharpshooter w/Rifle Bar, and Expert Badge w/ Rifle, before being Honorably Discharged in October 1968.
Len was employed by Florida Power and Light and worked in mechanical maintenance at the Hutchinson Island Nuclear Power Plant in St. Lucie County. He retired from FP&L in 2003. Len enjoyed retirement and spent his time working around his house, managing his rental properties, and being a very interested and involved Grandfather. Len loved rooting for his favorite sports teams, which included the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Vero Beach High School Football team, and most recently Nova Southeastern University Volleyball and UMass Football. Len loved his family and was a very proud father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard, and Ann Jankowski.
Len is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sheila Sestric Jankowski; three children Lenny Jr. (Ally), Jennifer (PJ), and Dawn (Fredy); three brothers Frank (Patricia), Rick (Karen), and Rocco (Diane); seven grandchildren Abigail, Ryan, Jake, Emma, Marley, Freddy, and Isabella; four step grandchildren Morgan, Desirae, Sara, and Adam.
A Service and Celebration of Life will be held at Aycock Funeral Home at Tradition on Saturday May 25, 2024. Visitation from 12:00-1:00pm followed by Service from 1:00-2:00pm.
