Leonard R Hooper, 97, of Manchester, NH, passed away on June 19, 2021 at CMC in Manchester, NH surrounded by his granddaughter and close family.
Beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, Leonard was born April 11, 1924, the son of Thomas E Hooper and Barbara (Hoffarth) Hooper, was predeceased by his wife, Carol (Filleul) Hooper, sisters, Grace (Hooper) Hutchins and Barbara (Hooper) Tellier , and brothers Clarence Hooper, Earl Hooper and Lester Hooper.
He is survived by his daughters Lenore (Hooper) MacKinnon, April (Hooper) Soenen, Diane Hooper and sons Steven Hooper and Leonard P Hooper, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
After graduating from Manchester Highschool West in 1943, Leonard served in World War II in the US Army Yankee division, Battery A 102nd Field Artillery Battalion, under General Patton as a radio operator through several battles and campaigns.
His life long love of golf began when Leonard was a Caddy Master prior to his tour in WWII. After his honorable discharge, he had a lifelong career at PSNH and retired in 1986. Retirement did not mean slow down to him, he was very active, enjoying his part time jobs at McDonalds and the Amoskeag Fishways, playing golf and bowling.
Services will be held for Leonard Thursday, July 1st at 11:00 AM at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH. A celebration of his life will follow at Alan's of Boscawen at 133 N Main St. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the food pantry at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 102 N Main Street, Manchester, NH. 03102.
