Leonard L. Haney, 88, of Saxonburg, passed away on Sept. 12, 2022, with his sons by his side. He courageously fought bile duct cancer for nearly a year. Born on March 10, 1934, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Leonard and Mildred (Smith) Haney. He was a graduate of Peabody High School.He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Morse code radio operator.Leonard had a special musical talent of playing the guitar and loved to write, sing, mix and create country western songs. He had one song that was sung and produced by Stoney Brooks and was played on the radio.He had a passion for making wine that he loved sharing with family and friends.He especially enjoyed going to the Saxonburg Cafe Contrary for breakfast and talking/joking with friends, family and staff.Not one to be inside, you could always find him out working in the yard or tinkering with something in the garage. There wasn't anything he couldn't make out of scraps of wood and a staple gun.In his younger years, he was an exceptional baseball player and was given a try out as a pitcher with the Pirates, but he was drafted by the Army instead.Leonard retired from Clinton Township as a supervisor and roadmaster after more than 25 years. He was instrumental in revitalizing the old U.S. Steel property into the productive Victory Road Business Park.He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Leonard; his brother, Todd Haney, who passed away in 2017; and his wife, Nancy, who passed away in 2014.He is survived by his sisters, Linda Morece and Patricia Weingartner; his sons, Leonard (Kristen) of Leonardtown, Md., and Jeffrey of Saxonburg; and his grandchildren, Lauren, Tyler, Tanner and Spencer Haney of Saxonburg, and Kendall and Kiley Haney of Maryland.HANEY - Friends of Leonard L. Haney, who died Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, 410 W.
