On April 13, 2022, Leon Thomas Cristiano passed away at the age of 78 in Woodstock, GA with his family by his side. Born in Gloversville, NY, Leon graduated from the University of Miami and Florida International University with degrees in Business and Public Administration.
A Miami resident for over 50 years, Leon loved His adopted city for its cultural diversity, beautiful beaches, and sunny weather. He worked for Miami Dade County for 35 years, primarily as an Administrator. As Director of Policy Analysis and Grant Development with the Department of Justice Assistance/Dade-Miami Criminal Justice, his department helped to secure grants for various county programs, many of which focused on helping inmates. Leon loved his work. He was beloved by his colleagues, and always felt that Miami-Dade County was one of the greatest employers in the country.
Leon was a fantastic cook and food lover. Growing up in an Italian family of restaurateurs, he began his apprenticeship at the tender age of 10 and was known for his fantastic homemade pizzas and eggplant parmesan, to name a few. Among his friends and family, Leon was also known for his love of Miami Hurricanes football, boating & fishing, and his weekly Saturday routine of bargain hunting at yard and estate sales for mid-century furniture and other treasures.
His family and friends especially appreciated his wisdom, logical advice, creativity, and easygoing nature. Leon was admired for his fiscally conservative ways and smart investments, and was known for reminding his children, "He who has the gold, makes the rules!"
Leon is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gail, of Woodstock, GA, his son, Scott (Meta) of Roswell, GA, his daughter, Kiley (James) of Los Angeles, CA, his grandchildren, Ella and Leo, his sister, Rose Musillo of Gloversville, NY, and many extended family members.
