Emmett Lennon Young, 81, of Olton, Texas, went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, June 23, 2021, in Lubbock, Texas, after a long battle with leukemia. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 28, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Olton with Brother David Azam and Brother Joe Carrasco officiating. Interment will follow at Olton Cemetery under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors. Viewing will be held from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Ramage Funeral Directors in Olton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 27. Serving as pallbearers will be Stan Young, Troy Young, Nathan Young, John Young, Austin White, Raul Acosta, Leo Hyman, and Jerry Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will be the Olton High School Class of 1958, Lonnie Narramore, Kenneth Young, Lynn Mercer, Seth Hege, Neil Thiessen, Sydney Landis, Cruz Chavez, and Rodrigo Chavez.
Lennon was born March 25, 1940, in Gaines County, Texas, to Emmett Lee and Tommie Valera (Vestal) Young. Lennon graduated from Olton High School in 1958 and attended West Texas State College in Canyon. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Carole Kemp, on July 30, 1960 and they would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary next month. They were best friends. Lennon farmed and ranched in the Olton area for 50 years. Farming and ranching were his passions. He also enjoyed raising miniature horses, donkeys, goats, and pot-bellied pigs. He supported his grandchildren in their stock show endeavors.
Accepting Christ at the age of 18, Lennon enjoyed attending church and listening to teachings of the scriptures in the Bible. He was a very kind and loving man and always put others first. His family meant so much to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Kenneth Mark Young in 1963, a sister, Wynne Lee Hyman, and two nieces, Jan Perrin and Kayleen Couch.
Lennon is survived by his loving wife, Linda Young, of Olton, two sons, Stan Young and his wife Lou Ann of Olton and Troy Young and his wife Renia of Olton, and two sisters, Doreen Young of Olton and Marilyn Perrin and her husband J.V. of Amarillo. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Kristen Rachel White, DVM of Beeville, Austin White of Canyon, and Nathan, John, Nicole, and Kaila Young, all of Olton. Also surviving Lennon are a sister-in-law, Judy King and husband Jerry of Amarillo, a nephew, Brandon King of Amarillo, six nieces, Doretta Carroll and husband Brooks of Olton, Lorenda Spain and husband Stanley of Dumas, Kym Nelson and husband Jeff of Osceola, WI, Julia Turner of Amarillo, Sumar Bullard and husband Joel of Amarillo and Robyn Richardson and husband Chris of Amarillo, along with seven great-nephews and five great-nieces.
