Our father, Leman Dale Veile, (Dale) was born November 25, 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho and passed on July 24, 2022 at his home in Rexburg, Idaho but his life certainly encompassed more than the 30 miles between to 2 destinations. He spent little time in Idaho before moving to McGill, Nevada with his parents Leman C and Afton Veile and his two older sisters Lois and Gwen. Their next move placed Dale in Vernal Utah through the 8th grade. Odessa, Texas followed as he began high school and the last stop was Denver, Colorado where he graduated high school.
Dale enlisted into the Navy at 17 when he completed high school and served aboard the LST USS Sumner County and achieved the rank of Radioman 2nd Class. Dale was honorably discharged in November of 1957.
Upon his return to civilian life Dale pursued varied employment and eventually became a traveling salesman. It was during this time that Dale met Marlene Newton in Salt Lake City. They were married on August 7, 1964. Upon marrying and purchasing a new home for $13,000 in what was at the time Granger, Utah, Dale decided that an impending family necessitated better financial promise. He then began school in earnest where he received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Utah. Upon graduation Dale found employment with Utah Power and Light as an engineer in power. He eventually accepted an opportunity as the Region Engineer for Idaho in the Rexburg office in 1978.
During this time between 1968 and 1980 Dale and Marlene welcomed 5 sons into their home: Michael, Daniel, Matthew, David and Mark. The Rexburg area appealed to their family and Dale's thoughts of advancement were displaced by the amenable family environment and community. This sacrifice professionally was also assuaged by mule deer bucks and bugling bulls in the Lost River range or a Yellowstone cutthroat from Henry's lake. He eventually made a move when Utah Power became Pacificorp and the INEL provided fulfilling employment and warm relationships until his retirement at the age of 65.
Dale began serving at the Temple after retirement. He faithfully served and sincerely relished the experience right up until the point Covid ceased all Temple attendance. What he truly embraced were the deep relationships he was able to enjoy during his time of service.
Through the years he enjoyed gardening and somehow took it as an unusual achievement to successfully grow potatoes in his back yard in Idaho. He spent hours most days in his highly outfitted wood shop. He would seek projects and built many a cabinets, chests, tables, or utilitarian devices for his family members. This time of work allowed him to apply elements of precision, accomplishment, and solitary contemplation. Throughout his years Dale also occasionally demonstrated a gift for art, sketching and even a little painting. He was remarkable at this artistic gift which was another facet of his creative side
When it came to his family he was deeply committed to serve them and attend to their needs. He would drop everything at the slightest hint of need by his family. He remains a powerful example and lasting influence upon our lives. He will be so missed by his 5 sons, 4 daughter in laws, 14 grandchildren and 2 grandson in laws and certainly his wife Marlene.
