Leland E. Stevens, 90 of North Cross Rd. Gill, Mass. died peacefully at home on March 6, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born November 1, 1930 to George E. and Hazel B. (Simonds) Stevens. He married Carrie T. (Jackman) Allen on April 3, 1983. Leland graduated from Turners Falls High School, Class of 1948. From 1948 to 1952 he worked on the family farm and was hired to plow snow on the town roads. On November 17, 1953 he was drafted in the US Army during the Korean War. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, Co B 126th Armored Ord Bn. He was honorably discharged on November 16, 1955 with a rank of SP 3. From 1955 to 1966 Leland drove truck for the Farm Bureau in Deerfield, Massachusetts. In 1966 Leland started working for the US Postal Service, retiring in 1988 after 33 years of service. He then worked for GBI Marketing in Bernarston/ Greenfield for several years. Leland was on the planning board and a selectman in the Town of Gill for 12 years. He took great pride in his vegetable garden every year. He had a green thumb and he could make anything grow.
He is surived by his wife Carrie Stevens of Gill, a daughter Brenda Stevens, of Enfield, Ct. , a son Gary Stevens and his wife Doreen of Gill, a grandson, Nicholas Stevens and his wife, Kelly of Gill, a granddaughter, Caitlin Sprague and her husband Michael of Gill; great grandchildren, Kainen Stevens, Bristol Stevens, and Xander Sprague; four step children, five step grandchildren, and twelve step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private with burial in North Cemetery, Gill.
The family would like to thank the Pioneer Valley Hospice nurses, aides, and staff for the exceptional care and support that Leland and his family received.
