Mr. Lee Dixon Griffin, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, passed away at his residence on July 5, 2022.
The funeral service was held at Bethel Baptist Church in Sylvester, GA, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 14, 2022. The service was officiated by Rev. Grady Morey and Rev. Danny Story. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Lee was born on February 20, 1967, at Adel Memorial Hospital in Adel, GA to Anne Wimberly Griffin and Lee Dixon Griffin, Sr.
After Lee's father passed in an auto accident on March 4, 1972 when Lee was five, Lee and his Mother moved to Mitchell County where Lee attended Westwood School. On August 12, 1977, Anne married Wesley James Thornton and they all moved to Worth County where Lee attended and graduated from Worth Academy. Lee later graduated from Valdosta State in 1991 where he met the love of his life, Caroline (Candy) Patton. Lee and Caroline were married on May 10, 1997, at Bethel Baptist Church in Sylvester, GA after a long courtship.
Lee was employed by Warner Brother's Discovery (originally known as CNN before several mergers) for 28 years and his current title was Traffic Media Specialist. Lee enjoyed his work and was held in high esteem by his colleagues that also considered him a friend.
Lee especially loved to travel, fish, play guitar, tell jokes, prank scare people, and be in the company of family and friends. Lee had several nicknames, but the most fitting was "the mayor" since Lee was always turning strangers into friends. Lee was known by many as the life of the party because he always looked on the positive side of life. Lee was very close with his Mother, Anne, and would call her several times a week if he couldn't see her. It was known that Lee could never could get enough of his Mother's fried chicken or dumplings.
Lee is survived by his loving wife, Caroline (Candy) Patton Griffin, who he cherished for 32 years as a life partner, his adoring Mother, Anne Wimberly Thornton, Mother-in-law, Martha Sue Patton and two sisters-in-laws, Suzanne Patton Morrison (Scott Morrison), Rosemary Patton Aschoff, In addition to, wonderful nieces and nephews that he loved immensely.
Lee is preceded in death by his father, Lee Dixon Griffin, Sr, his stepfather, Wesley Thornton, his father-in-law, Larry J. Patton, his sister, Cheryl Calhoun, his nephew, John Calhoun, and his brother-in-law Russ Aschoff.
Pallbearers include Greg Darley, Randy Thornhill, Sid Halstead, Brian DiNapoli, Azim Shaikh, and Orlando "Jay" Hernandez. This list was difficult to keep at six due to the many people that loved Lee, so for all the close friends of Lee not on this list, please know you are still honored and remembered as a close friend of Lee by the family.
