Lazaro R. Marroquin, 74, of Palacios passed away May 11, 2022. He was born August 18, 1947 in Edinberg, TX to the late Jesus Marroquin and Santos Resendez Marroquin. Lazaro’s family moved to Palacios in the 50’s, where he would eventually meet his bride, Herlinda, in the late 60’s. After dating for a year, they married in 1970 and made their home in Palacios.
Lazaro started working as a truck driver in the 60’s and went by the call name “Short Pants.” He was a tough old man. During this part of his working life, Lazaro survived two truck roll overs and a shot of electricity that went straight through his body. After leaving the trucking life, Lazaro worked for the City of Palacios. Throughout his career, he always enjoyed fixing things, a skill Lazaro passed on to his sons. He was considered a shade tree mechanic and was often found collecting things that needed repair. While fixing things brought him joy, it paled in comparison to the joy he had being a Grandpa. Lazaro had 4 grandsons and 3 granddaughters. He showed his affection to each one of them by sharing his love of lotto scratch offs, honey buns and jokes. When he was with his grandkids was when he came up with some of his best jokes, a trait he proudly passed on to several of his grandkids!
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Linda Marroquin; sons Samuel (Nora) Marroquin and Saul (Amy) Marroquin; sister Hope Oros; brothers Felipe Marroquin and Leandro Marroquin and grandchildren Corben Marroquin, Anyssa Marroquin, Elleana Marroquin, Julyssa Marroquin, Enrique Marroquin, Christopher Marroquin and Christian Marroquin.
The family will welcome friends and relatives from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Monday, May 16, 2022 for a viewing and visitation time at the Palacios Funeral Home; 701 1st St.; Palacios, TX 77465.
