Lawrence James Matteson, son of Parley and Helen Matteson of Schenectady, age 85, passed away very suddenly on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024. He was born August 23, 1939, in Schenectady NY. He was a graduate of Draper High School in Schenectady, NY. He was an alumnus of Union College receiving a bachelor's of science in electrical engineering, Rensselaer Poly Technical Institute receiving a masters degree in electrical engineering and University of Rochester receiving a MBA where he graduated as a valedictorian. His career included General Electric, Eastman Kodak and the University of Rochester. In 1991 after 26 years, he retired from Kodak as a Senior Vice President being one of the youngest individuals to ascend to that level. His contributions to imaging were transformational being awarded multiple patents related to reconnaissance. At his retirement, he led the prestigious Imaging Information Systems Group. He then embarked on a second career spending 28 years as an Executive Professor at the University of Rochester, Simon School of Graduate Business Administration. He loved teaching and was a visiting professor in Netherlands, Australia, China, Switzerland, and France. He was a trustee at Rochester Institute of Technology for over thirty years. He was on the board of advisors at Roberts Wesleyan University for many years. He served on the board of the Rochester Mental Health association. In addition, he was on the board of his home owner's association, Park Square South. He had volunteered at Saint Peter's Kitchen once week and on many holidays until relocating to Florida. But above all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Lawrence and Mary Kay travelled extensively for pleasure and business. Golfing was their shared pastime. Lawrence and his wife Mary Kay belonged to St Louis parish in Pittsford, NY for many years. They are
currently members of St Teresa Catholic church where the funeral mass was celebrated on Monday, November 25th, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Kay Myers Matteson, two children Margaret Matteson Gallipeau and Michael Matteson and 9 grandchildren, Megan Gallipeau, Kyle Gallipeau, Mary Rose Gallipeau, Sam Matteson, Molly Gallipeau, Marie Gallipeau, Peter Gallipeau, Monica Gallipeau and Paul Gallipeau.
