Lawrence Chapman of Helena, MT went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ on March 26, 2024.
Lawrence was born in Townsend, MT on June 10, 1942 to the late Forest and Esther Chapman. He was the 4th child out of 5 in his immediate family. He was raised and attended school in White Sulphur Springs. Lawrence had two children from a previous marriage, Lucinda, and Larry. He was also a father-figure to Mike and Raymond throughout the years.
In December 1992, Lawrence met the love of his life, June and they lived in Redstone, MT until her retirement which took them to Glendive, MT where they lived for the next 20 years.
Lawrence's work history included ranching, logging, and road construction. His first construction job was that of a scraper operator in 1976 when he learned how to operate a scraper while working on Newland Creek Damn near White Sulphur Springs. Throughout the years he also operated other types of heavy equipment, specializing in finish slope work with dozers (mainly D-6 Caterpillars). While in South Dakota Lawrence was recognized by the state as an outstanding operator and given an award for his exceptional finish work which included ensuring the road slopes were precise. Throughout Lawrence's 43-year history of working road construction, he estimated he worked and lived within, or around at least 36 counties in Montana. Additionally, he worked in Wyoming, Utah, South Dakota, Idaho, and Colorado. At 77 1/2 years old, Lawrence finally decided it was time to retire.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, June, Parents Forest and Esther, brother Leonard, and Sister Dorothy. He is survived by his siblings, Doris and Eldon (Mary), daughter Lucinda (Bill), Larry (Laurie), Mike (Sherrie), Raymond (Pat), Daughter in law Kelly, and June's children Debbie (Steve and family), Dennis (Linda and family) Dallas (and family) Deanne (and family) along with Grandchildren Brandon, Rex (Arianna), Lane, Sloane, Shelbi, and Great Grandchildren Averie, Carter, and Owen and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
