Lawana Janet (Kelley) Lopez, 63, peacefully left earth surrounded by her family and loved ones on April 14, 2021, after a short battle with cancer.
Lawana, affectionately known as "Mama Wana" and "Grizz" was a Mama Bear full of love, kindness, encouragement, and open arms for all. If you had the pleasure to know Lawana, you knew she was a "team mom" in every way. Her selflessness was incomparable. Expecting nothing in return, Lawana made sure everyone in her path was taken care of.
Lawana was born in Purcell, OK on April 03, 1958 to Kenneth Lee Kelley and W. Jean (Haley) Whitaker. She graduated from Central High School in 1976. She attended Mesa State College and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree for Theater Makeup Artistry.
She will be missed and is survived by her children, Adam Lopez, wife Jessica, Sabrina (Lopez) Juarez, husband Aaron, and Micah (Brat) Lopez. Lawana shared her children with former spouse Charles (Chuck) Lopez. Her mother W. Jean (Haley) Whitaker, step-mother Barbara (Mum) Kelley. Siblings: Tonja, Greg, Tommie Sue, Stentz, Christina, Lisa, and Kent. Grandchildren: Izabella, Adrian, JaKoby, Sofia, Aryanna, and Nehemiah. Lawana also has several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and lifelong friends.
A Celebration of Lawana's Life will be held on May 2, 2021, from 1:00-6:00 p.m. at the Rocket Park, Grand Junction, CO. Between 3:00-4:00 p.m. there will be a moment of silence, toast, and opportunity for family and friends to share memories of our dear Lawana.
