Delta County resident Laura Marie Turner passed away Thursday Sept 9th 2021 at her home in Hotchkiss Colorado. She was 86 years old.
Laura Marie Wood was born July 12, 1935 to Paul Weaver Wood and Bessie Marie (Williams) Wood in Hotchkiss Co. She spent her childhood in Hotchkiss and graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1953. Laura furthered her education at Mesa State College.
On March 6 1955, Laura married Dennis Ray Turner. Dennis Joined the Army, and while he was serving in Okinawa Japan Laura lived in Grand Junction with her cousins Pete and Jean Thornberry and worked at the First National Bank of Grand Junction.
When Dennis was discharged From the Army, they bought a ranch below Needlerock and farmed till times got tough, then Dennis started working for Gordan LeValley's plumbing shop till it had a fire and closed. Laura was their bookkeeper. After that they sold the ranch and built their dream home in Hotchkiss.
Laura belonged to the Needlerock Club, Woodman of the Word, and Laura and Dennis loved spending time at the Hotchkiss Crawford Historical Museum where they spent many hours volunteering.
Laura and Dennis celebrated 63 years of Marriage before Dennis passed away on December 11, 2018.
Laura is survived by a daughter Renae Meredith (Wade), son Robert Turner, granddaughter Amanda Meredith, and three great great grandsons Gavin, Mitchell, and Wesley.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband Dennis Turner, parents Paul and Bessie Wood. sisters Mona Axtell and Margaret Bear, and a brother Eugene Wood.
Donations can be made to Hotchkiss Crawford Historical Museum or Hope West Hospice.
