Beloved wife and mother Laura Black Biel passed away at age 75 on Saturday, September 4, 2021 in Dallas. She was born August 4, 1946, to Isaura Martinez Black and George Garner Black.
Laura is survived by her husband Richard (Rick) Biel of Dallas; son Stewart Eisenhart of Washington, DC; stepdaughter Allison Biel of Dallas; sister Carla Black of San Antonio; brothers George (Mary) Black, Edmund (Cherie) Black; and Carlos (Barbara) Black, all of San Antonio; brother Michael (Terri) Black of Houston; grandson Lucas Eisenhart of Washington, DC; as well as seven nieces, nephews and their children.
Laura was born in Laredo and grew up in San Antonio, where she attended Thomas Jefferson High School, becoming a cheerleader during her senior year. She loved spending time in Hebbronville and the Rio Grande Valley, where many of her extended family still live.
Her innate curiosity and enthusiasm led to a love of travel, as well. In the early 1970s, she and her first husband John (Jack) Eisenhart lived for several years in Singapore and Southeast Asia. When she returned to Texas, she channeled that same passion for travel into a decades-long career as a corporate travel agent (and made many lifelong friends along the way). As a single mother, Laura instilled the values of diligence, hard work and especially love and respect for family in her son.
Laura lived without pretense or filters, always a strong and passionate presence, with a talent for disarming strangers and making friends in any situation. After moving to Dallas in 2010, she spent many days in all kinds of weather exercising her green thumb and encyclopedic knowledge of plants, inherited from her mother, to keep her back yard (also known as "Laura's Office") in pristine condition.
She passed peacefully, with a great stillness, like a river come to rest.
A celebration of life will be held in San Antonio, with additional details to be determined.
