Larry Leon Wilkins, Sr., 79, of Poteet, Texas, passed away November 5, 2021.
He was born in Iron County, Missouri, on Neal's Creek outside of Bixby. He graduated from Belleview High School before serving in the U.S. Army.
Larry married Caroline Locke, on March 15, 1969, afterwards they moved to Poteet, Texas. They had three sons, Michael, Larry Jr., and Mark, who they raised to show livestock and participate in a variety of other extracurricular activities living at the ranch. He worked for AT&T for 29 years, while also maintaining a herd of Santa Gertrudis cattle. After retirement, he stayed active caring for the cattle, Quarter Horses, and land in Poteet. He loved to cook for his family during family gatherings and holidays. He also had a deep passion for history of the Locke Poteet Nursery, now known as the Wilkins Ranch, and enjoyed sharing it with others often.
He was a lifetime member of the Poteet Lions Club, Telephone Pioneers of America, and the Atascosa County Sheriff's Posse.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Caroline; son, Michael; mother; Alta Land; and parents; Monte and Virginia Wilkins.
Larry is survived by his son, Larry Wilkins and Angie; his son Mark Wilkins; daughter-in-law, Lisa Wilkins; grandchildren, Tyler Wilkins, Kayla Jennings and husband Gabe, Haley Wilkins and her fianc?, Jared Meyer, Larry "Trey" Wilkins III, and Brody Wilkins; great grandchild, Curtis Jennings; sister, Kathy Wisdom and husband Bob; and brother, Wendell Schmitt and wife, Tammy.
There will be a visitation at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021. Services for Larry will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas, at 10 a.m., Saturday November 13, 2021. Following the funeral, there will be a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, on Peace Avenue in New Braunfels, Texas.
