Larry Roy Simpson passed away June 20, 2019 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Larry was born to Donald and Beulah Simpson on March 23, 1960 in Watertown.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29 at the Community Center in Isabel, SD with Ronald Stradinger officiating.
During his childhood, Larry worked on the family farm with his dad. He was very mechanically inclined and was never afraid of a good project. As a teenager, Larry worked as a grounds keeper at the Watertown Country Club and was later employed at the welding shop in Watertown until he graduated.
Larry attended Kampeska Townshup country school prior to attending McKinley and Roosevelt Elementary in Watertown. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1978. Larry went to Mitchell Technical Institute to perfect his welding skills. After graduating, he moved back to Watertown and became a welding instructor at Lake Area Technical Institute.
During this time, he married Deborah Sampson. Larry worked various jobs, from the oil fields in Oklahoma to road construction around South Dakota. Larry worked many years for Miller Construction at Isabel as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. Larry and his wife Deborah moved their family to Isabel in 1988.
Larry left the construction business in 1998 in order to raise his three children-Jesse, Taber, and Sammi. Larry was then hired as the utilities superintendent for the City of Isabel. He was very meticulous about keeping the town looking respectable. Larry was involved in every aspect of the town's requirements to keep everything running smoothly. He received multiple certifications and awards during his employment.
In February of 2017 Larry reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Mitzi Schnackenberg. In June of 2017, Larry moved Mitzi to Isabel and on October 14, 2017 they were married at the Hitchin' Post in Sturgis.
In December of 2018 Larry retired from the utilities superintendent position and spent his remaining days "tinkering" in his beloved back yard.
Larry is survived by his wife Mitzi; sons Jesse and Taber (fiance Tara Price); a daughter Sammi (fiance Sheldon) of Rapid City, SD; three grandchildren, Chance, Piper, and Lenyx; siblings, Becky Johnson of Texas, Nikki and Pat Moore of Kentucky, Kim and Jeanne Simpson of Pierre, SD, and Twyla and Jim Knudson of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded int death by his parents, Donald and Beulah Simpson. (Mitzi's address is Box 236, Isabel, SD, 57633.)
