Help us celebrate Larry! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Larry.
Larry Thomas Reed passed away Thursday evening, September 30, at Park West Medical Center following a short illness. He was 74 years of age.
Tom graduated from Ketron High School in 1965 and attended the University of Tennessee. He worked for Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals before accepting a position at the Y-12 Security Complex where he was employed for over 20 years as a security consultant.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Reed, and his mother, Trula Mathis Reed, both of whom were lifelong schoolteachers in the Kingsport area. He is survived by his wife, Judy Kendrick Reed, his brother and sister-in-law Jim and Diane Reed of Kingsport, nieces Krista Reed of Knoxville and Amy Brown and her husband Nick of Murfreesboro, aunts Sarah Reed of Knoxville and Iva Mathis of Rogersville, stepsons Michael Winslett, Kevin Winslett, and David Lay, grandchildren Christian Winslett, Courtney Bailey, Peyton and Arya Lay, and great-grandchildren Mason and Paxton Bailey.
Tom was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a lifelong fan of UT athletics and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved Volunteers. His love of sports carried over to his family, whether it was watching his grandchildren and nieces participate in high school athletics or watching the teams coached by his stepson.
Tom will be remembered for his outgoing personality and humor which brought joy to everyone around him. While he and his wife, Judy, enjoyed traveling in their retirement, his greatest joy was in spending time with the friends he had made in the Morristown community in which he lived as well as those he had made during his tenure at Y-12 and while living in West Knoxville.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Monday, October 11th at the Click Funeral Home Middlebrook Chapel, 9020 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, www. secondharvestetn.org
