Larry Doris "Poppie" Cox, Sr., 62, resident of Hickory Flat and former resident of Horn Lake, MS, passed away Sunday evening, July 12, 2020 in the comfort of his home following an illness of several months.
A drive by visitation with the family will be from 5 Pm to 6 Pm Wednesday, July 5 at the Family Life Center of Temple Baptist Church with a private burial in the Bethel Cemetery near Etta. Bro. Don Schuman will officiate and arrangements will be provided by New Albany Funeral & Cremation Care.
Mr. Cox was born June 17, 1958 in New Albany, the son of Gara Burchfield Cox of Myrtle and the late Finley Cox. He received his education at Oakland High School in Memphis and was employed with the Memphis Light, Gas and Water Department for 25 years before retiring.
A devout Christian and member of Temple Baptist Church, Mr. Cox enjoyed church activities and reading his Bible. He moved to Union County 22 years ago to be near his family and will be remembered for his love of fishing, music, humor and conversation.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Cox is survived by his children, Tera Streich (Andrew) and Larry Cox, Jr. (Samantha), both of Hickory Flat, two brothers, John cox (Cathy) of Southaven and Randal Cox (Jan) of Olive Branch and seven grandchildren, Caylie, Brooklyn and Drew Streich, Serenity Camp, Mackenzie, Lillian and Finley Cox.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Kristy Lynn Cox.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Temple Baptist Church, 1025 North St., Myrtle, MS 38650.
