Larry Dean Crites, age 75, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 in Jal, NM. He was born on January 31, 1946 in Imperial, NE to Guy Roosevelt and Etta Viola (Row) Crites. Larry married Valerie Fleming on October 12, 1968 in El Paso, TX and they shared 52 wonderful years together.
Larry was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion Post 430, American Legion Riders, and a member of the Jal school board for 8 years. He enlisted in the army in 1966 and served with the 60th Ordinance, 3rd Ordinance Battalion Long Bien and was in Vietnam. Larry worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company from 1974 until he retired in 2002. He enjoyed spending time with his friends who referred to him as "Pops" and could be found every morning at 6 am having coffee with his coffee crew - Doug, Gary, Bill, Kendell and Keith. Larry also enjoyed quail hunting, riding motorcycles, and instructing hunter safety courses. He will be dearly missed.
Larry is survived by his wife: Valerie Crites of Jal, NM; and son: Jason Dolphus Crites of Odessa, TX;
He was preceded in death by his parents: Guy and Etta Crites; son: Larry Dean Crites II; and brothers: Frederick Crites and Charles Crites.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm CST on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, TX. Honorary pallbearers will include: Doug Ford, Gary Wakins, Kendall James, and Keith Beckham.
