Larry Charles Schohl, 74, life-long resident of South Bend, passed away after a long, hard-fought battle with COPD. He was born to the late Charles and Dorothy Schohl on December 10, 1946. He attended James Madison Elementary and went on to graduate from Central High School in 1965.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1965-1968. He did two tours off the coast of Vietnam, doing shore bombardment on the USS Epperson 00719. After the service, he attended Ferris State University, where he received his degree in HVAC in 1973. Throughout the years, he worked at BW Heating, Johnson Controls and Havel Brothers.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sandra (Skiles) and two daughters: Heather (Josh) Yike and Kristi (Alex) Parker. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Sadie, Jamie, Angel, Preston, Gianna, Nova and a great-granddaughter, Addison.
Larry will always be remembered for putting his family first, his great sense of humor, his practical jokes, his great storytelling and the mayor of Riverside.
He can finally breathe easy and enjoy all of the things his health would not allow.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Homes - Welsheimer Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial Children's Hospital, 615 N. Michigan Street, South Bend IN 46601, in memory of Larry.
