Lance Benson
Age 71, of Oscoda, MI and formerly of Centennial, CO passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at his home. He was born on June 23, 1948 in Aberdeen, SD to Alvin and Dee Benson. Lance graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen, SD. He worked as a body man and painter prior to his 17 years as an insurance adjuster for Allstate Insurance. Lance was skilled diver and wrestler in high school and he never lost his desire to be active. He loved the outdoors and over the years enjoyed riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, 4-wheeling in the Colorado Mountains, as well as visiting ghost towns and Michigan lighthouses. Lance also never tired of sharing tales of the hilarious adventures he had on river trips he took with his brothers. Stories that couldn't always be finished right away because he would be laughing to hard to tell them. He will forever be remembered as his grandchildren's number one fan at all of their sporting events and he could always make them laugh by suggesting he could have a "talk" with the officials when a call/game didn't go their way. Lance had an amazingly generous spirit, never hesitating to help his family, friends or neighbors and very often strangers at a moments notice. Most important though, he was the best husband, father, grandfather, son and brother anyone could ever ask for. Lance is survived by his wife Audrey Benson, whom he married on March 17, 1967; two daughters, Michelle (Brian) Dascher, Kristin (Jeff) Hocker; mother Dee Benson; two brothers, Sherwin (Nancy) Benson, Jay Benson; 3 sisters-in-law, Donna Porter, Susie Smith and Judy Smith. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Brianna Dascher, Dakota Dascher, Camden Hocker, Joel Hocker and 4 nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Steve) Plagman, Scott (Jennifer) Benson, Hillary (Quinn) Baldwin and Phil (Krissy) Smith. Lance was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Benson. Private arrangements were handled by Buresh Funeral Homes in Oscoda MI. Memorial contributions may be directed to Friends Together Alpena, 105 Prentiss, Alpena, MI 49707.
