Rev. Lamar F. Guyton, age 74, of Cartersville passed peacefully at his residence on Friday, June 18, 2021.
Lamar was born on March 4, 1947 in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Olin E. Guyton and Betty Jo Barker Guyton Leachman. He graduated from Bradwell High School Class of 1965. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from October 1966 until October 1969. He married Nancy Dempsey June 12, 1971 and graduated from Wesley Bible College in 1974. Lamar then served as a pastor in churches throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia, retiring in 2012 from Crosswalk Church of the Nazarene in Cartersville. He served as a Hospice Chaplain for many years and a volunteer Chaplain at Cartersville Medical Center. Lamar also was a bus driver for Bartow County Schools, Cartersville City Schools and the Bartow County Senior Center. He enjoyed reading and loved to play golf. He loved people, always helping others and most of all he enjoyed having a good time with his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Paul Leachman, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy D. Guyton; daughter and son-law, Kelli McKelvey (Rob); son, Casey L. Guyton; granddaughter, Kelsey Barger (Alec); grandson, Andrew McKelvey; siblings, Linda Guizzardi, Wanda McCartney, Olin Randall Guyton (Mary Ann) and Pete Leachman (Donnette); several nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and his loving church family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Owen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Owen Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
