Korinne Peterson (Kory Kay) age 57, passed on to heaven Tuesday May 24th after a good fight with glioblastoma. Kory often said "I may have cancer, but cancer does not have me". What a beautiful spirit she was. She was not one to complain. She started out moving from her hometown of Amherst, WI to Colorado, then to North Carolina and back to Wisconsin where she reunited with her college sweetheart and within 3 months whisked off to Girdwood, AK where she found her niche and married her true love, Michael Mroczynski, on June 3, 2001.
She made many trips home to Wisconsin because family and friends were most important to her. She made the friends in Alaska part of her family. She loved her dog Chickadee, walking, swimming (she was the first to dive into a lake even when the water was way too cold), gardening, daily jokes, game nights with the girls, birdwatching, camping and soaking up the sun. She made their house a home. Traveling and fishing around the world were also a joy and she would often out fish Mike. Some of her destinations include, Australia , New Zealand, Costa Rica, Honduras, Belize, Chile, Argentina and Mexico to name a few.
Her spiritual life guided her through life. Daily devotions and exercises kept her positive with always a smile on her face. She never met a stranger. She had an array of jobs usually in hospitality. She was a server at Diane's in Amherst, as a cook's assistant with Mike on a boat discovering the Prince William Sound, in banquets at the Alyeska Hotel and also as a barista before starting her cleaning business and working at the Mercantile for her "social hour".
A huge thank you to Kory and Mike's many friends who provided loving support every day, but especially while Kory was in hospice care. Also, sincere gratitude to her amazing medical team at Alaska regional and Providence Hospice.
Kory is survived by her husband Michael Mroczynski, her sisters and brothers in law, Kathy (John) Henderson , Kris (Jim Rappe and Karol (Peter) Harris, father-in-law Ray Mroczynski and sister-in-law Cheryl (Randy) Cieslewicz. Kory was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her father Wally Peterson, mother LaVerne Peterson and mother-in-law Donna Mroczynski .
Services were held Monday May 30th at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Chapel in Girdwood, AK and can be viewed on the Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish Anchorage, AK Facebook page video library. Memorials to our Lady of the Snows Catholic Parish in Girdwood AK. are appreciated. Kory had a soft spot in her heart for anyone in need and always wanted to help. With that in mind, we ask that you do an act of kindness for someone in need.
