Services for Kevin Dee Smith, 66 of Palestine, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 29, 2022 in the Bailey & Foster Funeral Chapel with Pastor Geoffrey Lightsey officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Kevin was born in Port Arthur, Texas on December 4, 1955 to Jack and Verda Smith.
He went to his heavenly home on October 23, 2022 with his family at his bedside.
He graduated high school in Hillsboro and attended Hill College for 2 years.
Kevin married Jody Cranshaw, the love of his life and they made their home in Whitney where he worked for Contel telephone service.
He was also very active in the community and served as President of the park board and ad president of Little League Association as well as serving on the Whitney City Council.
The Chamber of Commerce of Whitney awarded him Citizen of the Year for his tireless work with the city and youth.
He was transferred to Fairfield by his company as their local manager and he worked there until his retirement in November of 2021 after 42 years.
Kevin loved sports, but his best relaxation was tending to his yard and cooking outdoors.
He is preceded in death by his dad Jack Smith, his grandparents Dee and Winnie Smith of Port Arthur.
Left to remember him are his wife Jody of 47 years; two sons: Kevin Lee of Lubbock and Kyle of Austin; three granddaughters: Hannah, Ella and Norah all of Lubbock; his mother Verda Smith of Hillsboro; one loving sister Darlene and husband Ken Peters of Joshua; mother-in-law Charlene Whalen of Whitney; brother-in-law Charles Cranshaw and wife Mitzi of Mansfield. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews and cousins and lastly his dog Jager, his shadow.
The family would like to thank Palestine Medical Center, Solaris Healthcare, Dr. Dalal and staff at Texas Oncology, CTCA and M. D. Anderson.
