Kerwin Brent Stone was born on August 25th, 1947 and passed away on July 1, 2022 at the age of 74. He was born in Stephenville, Texas to his parents Nolan Dean and Myra Hitchcock Stone and is survived by his loving family: son, Andrew Brent Stone, and his wife, Vicki, of Lindale, Texas and grandchildren Elizabeth and Austin; his son Matthew Nolan Stone and his wife, Margaret of Atlanta, Georgia and grandchildren Charlotte and Jackson; his brother Aris Dean Stone and his wife Tasmen of Huntsville, Alabama and family.
Kerwin was a native-born and lifelong Texan and veteran of the United States Air Force. He practiced real estate, construction corporate and commercial law in Beaumont for over 40 years.
Kerwin was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Beaumont for many years and a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Beaumont Independent School District, however much of his time and passion in the last 20+ years was spent working with veterans. He served as President of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 292 in Beaumont, president of the VVA Texas State Council, and on the Board of Directors of Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc. In his capacity as a leader of VVA at every level, he received numerous awards and recognitions, culminating in the VVA Commendation Medal in 2022.
Kerwin is known for his intelligence, wit and generosity, but will be remembered most as the consummate servant-leader. While he often seemed to have the right words for whatever the situation, he never failed to serve the people around him.
Services for Kerwin will be held at First United Methodist Church at 701 Calder Ave, Beaumont, TX 77701 with Rev. Jon Stouffer officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 23rd 2022 at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church with a celebration of life on Saturday, July 23rd 2022 at 2:00 PM at the same location. In lieu of flowers, Kerwin requested that donations be sent to VVA Chapter 292, P.O. Box 1071, Beaumont, TX 77704; or to First United Methodist Church Youth Ministries, P.O. Box 3247 Beaumont, TX 77704.
