Kerry D. Lawson, 86, an unforgettable being, passed away on December 3, 2021,
after a bout of pneumonia while residing at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen
Indiana. He was born in Fort Wayne to the late Howard Devon Walters and Mary
Josephine (Woehr) Lawson on November 28, 1935. Kerry grew up in Columbia
City, graduating from Columbia City High School in 1953. He settled into a career
as a professionally skilled maker of wind instruments and in retirement he served
as a substitute teacher for Elkhart Community Schools. He volunteered as a
supportive listener with Switchboard Concern Crisis Agency and enjoyed his
volunteer time with the Elkhart County Teen Court program.
We could always depend on Kerry for a laugh due to his love of connecting with
others through humor. His many years spent on various lakes not only fed his
passion for fishing, but it also nurtured his spiritual life and love of nature. He
participated in sports throughout his life with pitching softball at the top of the
list for a fun family evening. Kerry was a seeker of knowledge through a
stimulating conversation, reading, and hours of listening to educational radio
programs. A quiet evening with the tv and popcorn suited him just fine also.
Kerry was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Judith Carole (Jagger) Lawson.
May his new journey allow them to hold hands and laugh together again.
With so much love, Kerry is survived by his sister, Judy (Ken) Novak, his children,
Janelle (Tom Grubb) Roberts, Justine (Jay) Thompson, Warren (Linda) Lawson, and
Susan Lanning, his grandchildren, Audrey, Montana, Willis, Madison, Laren,
Alysan, Jenna and his ten great grandchildren.
Please join us in celebrating Kerry's life on January 15, 2022. The visitation begins
at 11:00 a.m. with the service taking place at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral
Home 10776 McKinley Hwy, Osceola, IN. Chapel Hill is honored to care for the
Lawson family.
