Kermit Edward Matyas passed peacefully on June 25, 2019 surrounded by many members of his loving family. Kermit was born to Stanley and Ruth (Abrahamson) in Moose Lake, MN on June 4, 1936. He graduated Moose Lake High School in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Airforce. Kermit was relieved of assignment with the Air Police Squadron and honorably discharged to attend the Minnesota State Patrol Academy. He retired as a Lieutenant with the Minnesota State Highway Patrol after 30 years of proud and loyal service. On January 31, 1959 Kermit married Mary Nell (Woodham) and together they had three daughters- Constance "Connie" (Roger) Sutherland; Lisa (Kevin) Figgins; and, Susan "Suzie" (Kevin) Masurka. He taught as an accident reconstruction specialist for the I.P.T.M. and was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge. Kermit married the love of his life, Jeanie Moore, on April 4, 1985. He was preceded in death by his brothers Patrick Helin and Robert "Skip" Hanson. Kermit is survived by his wife, Jeanie, his three daughters, brother Knowle (Teresa) Hanson, Richard "Rick" (Carol) Hanson and sisters Kathryn "Kitty" ( Rick) Hill, and Mary M. Bope, 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Kermit loved family, fishing, music, movies, dancing, ice-cream, the Minnesota Vikings and GOLF! In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Leesburg Humane Society 41250 Emeralda Island Road, Leesburg, FL 34788. A Visitation will be held Monday, July 15, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, MN with the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. Fellowship with lunch to follow.
