Kermit E. Loftsgaard was born at Sorum. SD on Aug. 8, 1917 to Tom and Thora Loftsgaard. He received his education in the Sorum area, attending Stevenson Grade School, and Thral Academy at Sorum and graduating from high school at Brookings, SD.
He returned to the Sorum area and continued ranching with his parents. He was married to Leona Albertson on Sept. 22, 1943 at Baker, MT. They continued to rance in the Sorum area until 1964 when they sold the farm and purchased the Sorum store.
In 1969 Kermit became the County Assessor for Harding County and continued until 1985 when he retired and they moved to Spearfish, SD.
He was baptized and confirmed a member of the Skoger Lutheran Church in Sorum and later a member of the Grand River Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Kermit was a great community supporter along with being a foster parent to four boys.
He also was a charter member of the Buffalo Lions Club, served on a school board and was a council member at Grand River Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Leona, of Spearfish, one daughter and son-in-law, Ralph & Alyce Kriege of Bowman, ND, and two grandchildren, Paul and his wife Julie and Jennifer all of Bowman, ND; one brother Bjarne of Richland, MT, and several nieces and nephew, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
