Kenneth Avon Henderson was the seventh child born to Lenora and Henry Henderson on June 15, 1940 in North Carolina. As a child Avon, affectionately known by family and most friends, attended elementary and high school in Dudley and Mt. Olive, North Carolina. After graduating high school, he relocated to Washington, DC and attended Howard University where he majored in Political Science and Business Administration.
April 16, 1960 he married Gwendolyn Ardelia Johnson (Sis). After completing his education, he began his tenure with Allstate Insurance. Kenneth Avon was destined for success. He owned and operated a Goodyear Tire franchise and later Henderson Tire and Auto, of which he passed on to his nephew James Henderson upon his retirement.
Ken was a wonderfully loving, devoted husband, brother, father, uncle, and friend. He will always be in the heart of his wife of 61 years, their two daughters Kandis and Kendra, granddaughter Kamille and grandson Kamden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his sister, Mona Faye Sutton; niece-sister, Brynda Johnson; Fred Johnson; Bill Butler; Fred Henderson; and John Taylor. He will also be remembered and cherished by a host of special and loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
