Kenneth E. Heath, 85, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 in Portsmouth, NH after a long period of declining health following a stroke. He was the beloved husband of his college sweetheart Claire (Dignam) Heath, to whom he was married for 63 years.
Ken was born at home in Conway, NH on March 16, 1936, during the great flood of '36. He was the son of the late Bertrand F. Heath and Mazie E. (Colbroth) Heath. The family moved to Snowville, NH where he grew up.
Ken was a graduate of Kennett High School in Conway, NH and Keene State College in Keene, NH. Early in his teaching career he taught at various schools in the NH White Mountains, and also helped build stock-cars as a hobby. Later, while living in Hudson, NH he spent many years teaching vocational skills at Chelmsford High School in Chelmsford, MA and working after school hours for the athletic department. He later moved to New Durham, NH on Merrymeeting Lake and continued to teach at Spaulding High School in Rochester, NH until his retirement. He was a former member of the New Durham Volunteer Fire Department.
Ken loved the outdoors and could often be found in the spring and summer fishing on the lake waters of NH, in the fall hunting in the woods, and in the winter snowmobiling on day trips .He was known as a man who could build anything and fix most anything, and often helped others with their camp projects at MM Lake. Ken was an avid NASCAR fan. He was able to attend several races and, never missed watching one when on TV.
Ken was a devoted, caring and loving husband, father, papa and great-papa who will be missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Michael Heath and wife Fawna of Calais, ME, Jeffrey Heath and wife Rebecca of Mont Vernon, NH, and Sheila (Heath) Crepeau and husband Gary of Barrington, NH ; seven grandchildren, Travis Heath of Tigard, OR, Georgina (Heath) Wenger of Philomath OR, and Patricia (Heath) Jolo of Rock Hill, SC, Courtney Heath of Tucson, AZ, Lauren (Crepeau) Maxwell, Danielle (Crepeau) McKenzie, Lindsey (Crepeau) Lazerowich ; eleven great-grandchildren Cairo, Abner, and Kamara Wenger, Margaret Jolo, Lena and Ramona Casillas, Brennar and Katie Maxwell , Dexin, Ellis and Crew McKenzie; two sisters, Audrey (Heath) Gonyer and her husband Jim of Ridgeway, VA and Eleanor (Heath) Dore of Loudon, NH and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by his sister Kathleen and brothers John, O'Neil, Harold, William, Gary, and Richard Heath
There are no immediate services plans, a memorial service will be held on a future date.
