Kenneth "Dick" R Brown, of Anacortes, passed away on June 17, 2022. Ken, was born December 17, 1932, in Port Townsend, Washington, oldest of five children, (Ron, Joann, Nancy, and Jim), born to Kenneth E and Adeline V (Joyce) Brown. After graduating from Port Angeles High School in 1951, he joined the Navy as an aviation electrician, stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged in 1955 he went to work for Anacortes Police Department as a patrol officer. He married his sweetheart, Elaine Larsen in 1956. They were married for 62 years at the time of her death in 2019. From 1959-1968, Ken worked as a Deputy Sheriff for Skagit County. He was also a volunteer ambulance driver and later was instrumental in starting the ambulance service in Anacortes for Island Hospital, serving as an EMT and teaching EMT classes. After retiring from police service he went to work for Shell Oil Co. and then became a small business owner, operating Anacortes Van & Storage. He served as a city councilman in Anacortes for 20 years. He was board chair of the Private Industry Council, long time member of Rotary Club, and a member and past commander of the local American Legion. A faithful follower of Christ, he founded and led, Sunday Evening Fellowship, a group that met weekly for several years. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church.
A kind and gentle man, Ken was devoted to service, to his family, friends, community, church, and country, throughout his 89 years of life.
Survived and greatly missed by his children: Ken (Julie) Brown of Spokane, Denise (Brent) Morrow, Dana (Bahman) Sadighmehr, of Anacortes, and Keith (Linda) Brown, of Mount Vernon; siblings: Ron (Sue) Brown, Nancy Kahler, and Jim (Lisa) Brown; sister-in-law, Linda (Mark) White; brother-in-law John (Barbara) Larsen; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on August 5, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Anacortes, with reception to follow.
